Welcome to the CNEA Grantee Blog!

Hello everyone. For your first blog post, we would love to hear from you about what has been going on since August of 2008? How has the EHR roll out been going? Any big successes you can share? Any challenges that we can help with? Any ideas, tips or questions for your fellow grantees?
We are excited about this blog, and want to hear from you as often as possible. Posting a new item twice a month at least and commenting as much as you like!

Thanks!

FLAT FILE DETAILS -

Hello All, I enjoyed meeting you all yesterday and before I forget..I thought I'd post how we use the flat-file to eliminate double entry for Immunizations.

I know I know. Why bother?

We select all Immunizations completed during the last week from the orders table. I cross reference that with the person table for demographic data. I also use the patient table which is where I store the INNC number. This number is assigned to us from Butte County. Once the data has been gathered I drop this information into a txt file. In access I wrote a VBA script that inserts character strings into the file so it will be accepted by the registry. Finally we upload this file to the website. Someone at the county looks at the file and if changes need to be made they send us back an update. We make the changes to the actual file and resend.

Up here on Northern California, we have a real problem with the proverbial "single point of failure" at the county end. He/she goes on vacation, is sick, too bad. So keep that in mind. If any one wants to discuss further, please don't Hesitate. I'll trust Tom and Sarah to promote this post if necessary so that more folks can see it.

Stay well. Charles -SCHC- _Immunization Registry-
