Thanks to all of you who posted such thoughtful and detailed remarks about your chart abstraction/pre-population strategies for the April evaluation question. This information will be extremely helpful for your colleagues who are a few steps behind you on the EHR journey.
Our question for May takes a look out of the trenches and into the future a bit. With all the discussions about the stimulus funding for health IT and the Medicare/Medicaid financial incentives, many organizations and constituencies are weighing in to advise HHS on what constitutes “meaningful use” of health IT. At the April 28-29, 2009 National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics hearing, CHIME (College of Healthcare Information Management Executives), HIMSS (Health Information Management Systems Society), AMIA (American Medical Informatics Association), AHIMIA (American Health Information Management Association) and numerous other professional and medical specialty associations all submitted recommendations on the definition of "meaningful use" of health IT. If you were to join the alphabet soup of thought leaders, informaticists, lobbyists and care providers, how would you define “meaningful use”?
