Meaningful use to me means interfaces. One of the biggest benefits of EMR is the ability to coordinate care among specialty, social and ancillary services. In the current health care environment where patients wait months to see a specialist, real-time information has been very helpful in providing quality health care. EMR and the ability to care coordinate and increase communication among all the staff enhances care coordination within a Medical Home. We can optimize EMRs if there were more funding for interfaces and direction for Federal, State and local government to interface.
Another meaningful use for EMR is for health maintenance reminder and quality improvement. Adding modules into the EMR system that notifies providers of standard of care procedures can add to improved care.
